Accidents
Accidently
putting another ring
on my left hand.
Calling you babe, or baby, or honey.
Joining in
on casual conversations
with asides
about "us".
Forgetting
that there is no "us";
only me
and
only you.
Forgetting
that there is
no reason
to pick out
dinner music
or visit
reception venues.
Forgetting
why I always
do a double take
when I realize
my diamond ring
is missing,
and quickly realizing
all that is left
is a pale tan line
indicating that
for the last
four months
I wore
that ring,
and for seven years
I was proud
of who I had become
by loving you.
Then
forgetting
that
you are through with me.
Accidentally
forgetting
that
I loved you
on purpose
and you
only loved me
by accident.
putting another ring

Calling you babe, or baby, or honey.
