Butterfly Regis

Withdrawn into the sun on the wings of Mercury,
the starlets bow out in turqoise dawnings.

A unicorn clink-clanks hooves around the dwarf's red scale.
A firedrake props on a bridge of white magnetic.

The myths of her tale
are human at birth.
Venus — balloon-like comet
at the whipping exfoliate winds that crown the Queen's Earth.

Capricornus swims above her herd
through the currents shred from her horns, a faith.
I believe at the fall of Jupiter
in crystal vapor rising up from incarnate breath,
as the birds pass on from weighted expectation,
that the gypsy tongue can sound,
take herself from the center of the asteroids locked down her sun
and bring the stories of her children
from the unicorn and the drake
to a lodge under the turquoise sky,

and she builds this world
like she floated in the sky
to piece in one affirming heart
into her puzzle book of visionary eyes.
