dreary morning in a truck stop off I-70
doughnuts made by
the sick hands of
dirty angels
doughnuts given the
names of long dead
movie stars:
the Gable
the Bogart
the Monroe
the Dean
asp poison would taste
better
go to restroom
wash hands
wash face
wash off the human
race
nothing left here but
coffee, cream, sugar,
the music of the spoon
against the sides of
the cup and one
last taste

bam bam bam! hot off the press, this is great stuff. no messing about, you're taking no prisoners... but while it's delivered so forthrightly, there's a LOT going on in the undercurrents. especially love the names of the doughnuts, how they are paired with something greasy, rancid-tasting, not the glamourous images presented. such is society, such was the big brand of hollywood as we're now finding out through stories of abuse by the studios and the drugs/alcohol/mental health issues of some of the YUGE stars

Dear BK,
Butters is right, there is a lot of stuff happening here.
“wash hands
wash face
wash off the human
race ”
Sometimes you just have to do that to start over. Scrub it off and start with fresh paint the next day. Real and raw! H🌷

Re. dreary morning in a truck stop off I-70
Damn! I used to LOVE to go to truck stops! They always had the best coffee and greasy spoon burgers ( in my carnivore years ). But most of all I people-watched. It was one of the best places ever to do that and write.
This is great poetry, Kitts.
As an aside, the mention of donuts named after the dead - the television series Scandal comes to mind: Gettysburger - The Double Lincoln with cheese, Freedom Fries, Teddy Roosevelt Tots, etc.
Just something to laugh about.

I struggle with metaphor but understand most of this in Your spill -- & Wow & : (
I would have never read this if not for our mutual, Sister, Ahavati
Though a somewhat negative,
still,
a wonderful spill

Thank you Tallen. I deeply appreciate your reading. I know i write about futility often, however, that is what makes sense to me on this plain of existence. I long ago gave up asking, "why?"
peace to you and good writing,
buddhakitty.
