Yesterday and Today
Sometimes I yearn for the good things about yesterday,
Mostly the fun and happy times from my youth,
But truth to be told days of yore and the sorrows I bore,
Made me who I am today.
Maybe it’s because as the yuletide season is approaching,
I get nostalgic for all the yardage I’ve gained,
Because in the path I yaw I look back and see my flaws,
I ponder just a little more.
It’s like a yellow brick road which diverted over yonder
Into the hills and distant fields I often wandered,
The silhouettes of my younger self,
Are still dreaming of today.
But I won’t surrender, I won’t yield to the melancholy,
Mistakes are supposed to be made,
I am happier and better for them,
It made me who I am today.
