Possibly it stems from a view of whether humans (with or without science & technology) are here on planet Earth fundamentally to co-operate, or dominate.

I agree with 'here to create' - it releases new energy into the world - which I reckon, 'the system' lives off (ironically) and tries to comandeer, own and possess it - thereby killing the goose that lays the golden egg.
