stagnant potential
there's a shadow hanging over me
and a ledger of all my failures
take a pound of flesh
a piece of my light
fireflies in a jar
dead by sunrise
as they disappear from the atmosphere
everything is dying
or becoming a soulless automaton
the rot is there
I can feel it seeping into my roots
the people that watered and fed me
are fading into the distance
and I have no one to blame but me
I ran from the very things
that were meant to keep me alive
now I'm stuck in a dead end hell
with nothing but a broken shovel
and the image of an innocent child
to dig my way out
and a ledger of all my failures
take a pound of flesh
a piece of my light
fireflies in a jar
dead by sunrise
as they disappear from the atmosphere
everything is dying
or becoming a soulless automaton
the rot is there
I can feel it seeping into my roots
the people that watered and fed me
are fading into the distance
and I have no one to blame but me
I ran from the very things
that were meant to keep me alive
now I'm stuck in a dead end hell
with nothing but a broken shovel
and the image of an innocent child
to dig my way out
