The Autumn of Our Love
Love was once a vast ocean
For our hearts to be set afloat
Now it’s a land locked pond
Too shallow for any boat
Our passion was an inferno
Blazing deep in the night
Now there are barely embers
Offering little warmth or light
Sex was an endless conquest
Novelty and adventure to each shag
Now it’s a pointless battle
With you waving the white flag
Companionship was a river
A great flow of admiration
Now it’s a vast drought
A dry expanse of condemnation
Life was a rampant forest
Full of life, excitement and sound
Now it is but a desert
Just bland and barren ground
This is the great autumn of our love
The season of death
Do I cling to the memory of our spring?
Is that enough to sustain what is left?
Will we last the coming winter?
Or do I let a new summer come?
And welcome her flaming rays?
Before this life is done.
For our hearts to be set afloat
Now it’s a land locked pond
Too shallow for any boat
Our passion was an inferno
Blazing deep in the night
Now there are barely embers
Offering little warmth or light
Sex was an endless conquest
Novelty and adventure to each shag
Now it’s a pointless battle
With you waving the white flag
Companionship was a river
A great flow of admiration
Now it’s a vast drought
A dry expanse of condemnation
Life was a rampant forest
Full of life, excitement and sound
Now it is but a desert
Just bland and barren ground
This is the great autumn of our love
The season of death
Do I cling to the memory of our spring?
Is that enough to sustain what is left?
Will we last the coming winter?
Or do I let a new summer come?
And welcome her flaming rays?
Before this life is done.
