Long-lost Love Letters
reading those words again
aloud
to myself
I cannot help but cry
and laugh
inconsolably
the feeling that
spreads
all over
like getting high off
second-hand
smoke
I wish I could just
hear
your voice
or feel your lips
against my
neck
just one last time.

Thank you, BK. It does indeed sting in a way that I can enjoy from time to time.

Evokes such a strong feel of longing and nostalgia.
"like getting high off

... great imagery.

I'm glad you liked that imagery, Josh. I was quite fond of it myself when that came to mind. :)

I'm both sorry and not sorry about that. But boy do I love to reminisce... What can I say? I'm a nostalgic woman.
I'm so glad you could appreciate it like this.
Thank you.

You speak for us nostalgics with beautifully crafted imagery. That image of getting high off second hand smoke evoked a mood of sadness yet memories of love. One of my favorite writers said the ancient Greeks saw the past ahead of them for what else can we know but the past? Your poem had that perspective strongly. And I must say I’m glad I visited you through this and your other emotionally gripping poems today. John

'Emotionally gripping' is surely what I aim for subconsciously with my writing. Achievement unlocked, I suppose.
I should take some time to catch up with your writing soon. Really grateful that you ended up here.

Makes the reader feel what you were feeling as you read, notably this verse:
the feeling that
spreads
all over
like getting high off
second-hand
smoke
the feeling that
spreads
all over
like getting high off
second-hand
smoke
