"The Bastard Verdict"
Coined by Sir Walter Scott
And unique in "Scots Law"
We have "The Bastard Verdict"
A trial can have one of three verdicts
Guilty
Innocent
Not Proven
Guilty, which they probably are
Innocent which they probably are not
Leads to a verdict of not proven
Every man and his dog
Know they are guilty
They get off on a technicality
Or the evidence is not strong enough
A "Not Proven Acquittal"
Does not mean innocent
"The Bastard Verdict"
Is a moral judgement
The bastard is guilty
But the proof is not strong enough
Claims of exoneration and innocence
Hold no legal or moral weight
As in "The Balance of Probabilities"
They are as guilty as sin
Apparently, DU operates in "Scots Law"
Which leads to a bullies charter
A predators guide to escape justice
In practice here's how it works
A person can write a pointed poem
Heinous in its content, intimidating
Gruel and unusual bullying of the worst kind
Attacking the disabled, the infirm, the different
Those who follow another religion
Those with mental health issues
The suicidal pushed to completion
There are many poems of this ilk
There are many comments if this ilk
That still haunts the halls of DU
From narcissists bent on the destruction
Of people, they view as inferior to them
Which, let's face it, is most people
Firstly they befriend you as an avid fan
This is simply recruitment into a cabal
The moment you disagree with them
You are cashiered for the cabal
Instantly the target of abuse
Through poems and comments
Through the spreading of lies
And the feeding of the gossip mill
It is now open season on you
If you are a cruel bastard
You can claim "The Bastard Verdict"
It's simple, to be able to write
A poem heinous in content
Being clearly about another member
Not using the member's name
We can all know who they are about
But as long as no names are mentioned
The verdict is "The Bastard Verdict"
Not proven, but guilty as sin
I would not recommend that DU members
Involve themselves in this activity
And happy to say that most won't
Bastards are thankfully a minority
I tell you what bakes my noodle
DU is a private web site free
From the shackles of legalese
They can ban anyone they like
Without reasons being given
They know these targeted poems
Exist and they clearly know about who
But the guilty bastards continue with impunity
And attack multiple victims some live members
And some they have made leave
These type of bastards need to be purged
How many leavers through abuse
Is too many
How much bullying and intimidation
Is more than enough
DU, in general, is a wonderful place
But maybe we should have a "Bastard Policy"
Stemming from experience and understanding
Of how predators work their black magic
"On the Balance of Probabilities"

A lifetime ban
Yours faithfully Rick

Bullies. Easy to antagonise. Just do not flinch.
They crack shit at the first instance of someone not moved by their attacks.
Somehow whatever the 'cause' they've taken on, becomes all about them. Me, me and yes the colossal giant me, is all what they care about.
Best way to deal with them is in their face laughter and staying here, and absolutely not moving a inch. They hate when someone stays cool, calm and collected and not get dragged to their level, into their trap.
Attacking the person rather than dealing with hard subjects is a classic sign of bullies.
Losing the plot is what they say Dave.

Not having really experienced bullying on this site, I do however understand that it can go on, I was biullied at school there was an attempt in the Army but that’s where I learned to fight back and since then I’ve bitten at bullies who have attempted to take the upper hand. It’s a powerful write and deserving of praise for posting

If I don't keep my eyes on the poetry I get faintly nauseous at the rampant cruelty allowed at times. And when the welcome mat has been yanked out from under...a body tends to turn and leave. I've witnessed too much of that already here. Strong write, my friend.
