Our Minds Are Poles Apart
We breathe
The same air
We see
The same sun
Our minds
Are poles apart
Empathy for us
Is not natural
A naïve sense
Of right and wrong
Often produces conflict
In a world of grey
We are strange
Frightening to some
But all the same
Human In every sense
We love
We smile
We laugh
Not necessarily the same way
Finding our voice
Amongst the noise
We bleed
We hurt
Like everyone else
If you would only
Look and listen
The same air
We see
The same sun
Our minds

aaaaah Brother, this spill of Yours got me traveling down memory lane when i was living with and helping to raise my autistic stepson.
I appreciated and marveled at the way his mind worked. He had no fear when it came to strangers and so i had to watch him like a hawk when we went to crowded places of some type of celebration.
It's difficult for people like us who are "something" but to the outside world we look just like them!!

IRL, i don't tell people that i am a schizophrenic
but most of the time they catch me talking to hallucinations or other odd behaviour and so they know i am not like the average person.

This is so touching. I am always reading for something with candor and vulnerability. 💖 Being bipolar I can relate, it's difficult to explain to people who do not understand, end up isolating, but sharing our struggles is a move in the right direction.

Ignorance comes from not understanding, if sharing changes one persons perspective on a disability then it’s worth the vulnerability shown in the write
