eye crye tarez, not teerz
Sometimes the world reveals
Such spectacular indifference
To starving faces
And battlefield leftovers
And child soldiers
And crippling loneliness
I cry tears in the fabric of my sanity
Deep furrows that fill with silt
And the detritus of a dozen broken hearts
The sorrow that never seems to flush
Sometimes the world displays
effervescent ecstacy
In the unburdened laughter of youth
Or the gentle sighs of lovemaking
Or the simple joy of kindness
Or the warm comfort of belonging
I cry tears in my calloused heart
Strips of indifferent muscle
And apathetic tissue
Flensing necrotic maudlin plaques
Sometimes the world uncovers
Too much to take
Too much to feel
Too much to hide
I cry tears
Not tears
Such spectacular indifference
To starving faces
And battlefield leftovers
And child soldiers
And crippling loneliness
I cry tears in the fabric of my sanity
Deep furrows that fill with silt
And the detritus of a dozen broken hearts
The sorrow that never seems to flush
Sometimes the world displays
effervescent ecstacy
In the unburdened laughter of youth
Or the gentle sighs of lovemaking
Or the simple joy of kindness
Or the warm comfort of belonging
I cry tears in my calloused heart
Strips of indifferent muscle
And apathetic tissue
Flensing necrotic maudlin plaques
Sometimes the world uncovers
Too much to take
Too much to feel
Too much to hide
I cry tears
Not tears
