Fertile Soil

*(for the 'Swamp Gods' competition before I read the rules, haha)

History repeats itself
Dredged up from the mire behind our eyes
A community play
A collective plan
The schematics of which we have yet to be privvy in our demand

We are on our way though
Through our scientific method of prayer and observation
Faith of some sort
of some fingerprint left in the mud
in the deep waters of our subconscious

Every savior a symbol of the rot
of the need and hunger of the system we feed
Like the fallen tree that is claimed by the soft earth
First Mother feeding her young to Her young
to her Young

Pieces and patterns
The full picture never seen
We're always just too damn close to see the brushstrokes
The green algae
The brown earth
The grey waters
The blue skies
The vibrant reds of the poisonous snakes come slithering our way

The very question we will answer
When we are dead to this world
Is 'What happens when a God disappears?'
Do they become mortal or is their body a fallen tree
given back to its Mother so that she may feed her young to her young?

There are poisons in the rot
Because all the vicious thoughts of these ignorant gods
are taken back into the deep waters
To the mire where history repeats itself
To mingle with the gods of tomorrow
Until each life has had a chance to live and die
as a god of these swamps
