In Alleys Choked and Stained with Taco Trucks – Sonnet Forty-Eight
In alleys choked and stained with taco trucks
And midnights glazed in corduroying runs
In west side bars burned clean in nips and tucks.
Extend from Venice Beach to Huntington.
Saint Monica remains in L.A's fire,
That flares the night in ever spreading heat,
That wavers in the weight of one desire,
That finds its heart in highway's every beat.
How tarnished love in every vanquished line,
In every shot from pan to selfie's twist,
How much they leave in every tear's define,
That streaks mascara's blur with wants' resist.
Rise up! you cloistered, rabid, hipster mass,
Let L.A. burn from Orange to Tejon Pass.
And midnights glazed in corduroying runs
In west side bars burned clean in nips and tucks.
Extend from Venice Beach to Huntington.
Saint Monica remains in L.A's fire,
That flares the night in ever spreading heat,
That wavers in the weight of one desire,
That finds its heart in highway's every beat.
How tarnished love in every vanquished line,
In every shot from pan to selfie's twist,
How much they leave in every tear's define,
That streaks mascara's blur with wants' resist.
Rise up! you cloistered, rabid, hipster mass,
Let L.A. burn from Orange to Tejon Pass.
