a brand new ♪song♪
a song cycle—part 2
-i-
when did your praise
become a curse
and all your smiles
wither and die?
why now this craze
to swell and burst,
as, full of guile,
you fret and fry?
-ii-
when did these claws
that rip my heart
replace your hands,
so gentle once?
what is the cause
we fall apart,
as fickle sands
of circumstance
-iii-
a stranger of
my love has made?
have all the tears
we’ve learnt to cry
not yet enough
the ransom paid
for better years
when we could fly?
-iv-
where are the days
we lived for love
and wrapped the sun
around our hearts?
why have always
and none above
become outdone
by baser arts?
-v-
for every curse,
a brand new song;
for every tear,
a charming smile.
time to reverse
the rights gone wrong,
as all our fears
we reconcile.
