A Perfect Paradox

I didn’t see the whole picture
I never even questioned this
How could I have not noticed
All the half lies that leave your lips

Oh, you’re just as sweet as molasses
My knees buckle when you say hello
With that kind of look in your eyes
How could I have not known

And when you get real nervous
You run your hands through your hair
Nothing made sense to me
But of course I never cared

Boy, it’s driving me crazy
I’m not the only one to see
The sheer depth that you hide
It makes you a perfect mystery

I’d throw my head back laughing
At every stupid thing you said
The ease with which you exist
God, it’s fucked with my head

Your crazy and unending abyss
And the need to fall deep is strong
It feels so right, to step to the ledge
Yet I step back, because I fear being wrong
