bone of my bones

For this reason, a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be
joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh.
Gen. 2:24 (NASB)

‘twas you i saw
before my eyes were open
when, by a law
that never shall be broken,
God gave me you.
i saw you at the fountain
when earth was new
and there were yet no mountains

‘twas you i heard
when all the world was silence
before the birds
had songs and strings had violins
when caves were mute
and waves went pantomiming
and flute and lute
knew not the art of rhyming

‘twas you i felt
beyond my sense of feeling
when low i knelt
to stop my heart from reeling
because i knew
my missing bits were waiting
and only you
could liberate my aching

‘twas you i loved
when love was but a promise
sent from above
to save me from the abyss
bone of my bones
complete when i am bleeding
loneness atoned
by marriage interceding.
