Resting in Rockollow

Late May 2019
Flower of the day: Chive
Creature of the day: Wood pigeons courting

Church bells ring on the left,
Sparrow mothers sing from the manmade homes in our brickwork,
Cardoons peak out from nests of silver,
low sun is a satisfyingly blinding gold.

The Acer bleeds on high shading alyssum
in an ancient Moss covered trough,
where Alyssum ties the nerves of this garden together,
Seagull wings beat high above.

Washing still hangs resting on the Cherry,
the Sycamore still rests on the telephone line,
a circle of Ferns are ascending
while the Rose readies for waking.

In this cool, late evening there is an affection
between the lawn, timber, stone and my bare feet,
nose accepting gentle notes of Salvia
as the day tips into repose.

Muddy cloud billows out from treetops,
early Avon petals carpet the ground,
near ripe Strawberries tumble over smooth edges
Church bells ring again on the left.
