Picture of a Perfect Goodbye

our last goodbye resembled
that movie scene that draws a painful tear from your eyes
or that song that sends a sting through your heart
 
it was everything i never wanted to imagine
it could be
soft and sweet
with an awfully bitter aftertaste

i could have stayed in that final embrace forever
if only i had realized there would be
no other
i think i might have done just that
