The Light
In thorns and ash I find myself reborn
A phoenix rising from its weary grave
But who in this world of hatred and scorn
Would see me and know that I'm not the same?
My reflection has long been left behind
My soul has since exploded from its shell
A light that grows the longer it has shined
Drinking deeply from life's endless well.
But you, your smile like everything is right,
Your eyes, so dark and oh, so far away
Couldn't you ever look upon my light
And maybe ever hear these words I say?
I look at you and wonder if it's true-
Couldn't you ever learn to see me, too?
A phoenix rising from its weary grave
But who in this world of hatred and scorn
Would see me and know that I'm not the same?
My reflection has long been left behind
My soul has since exploded from its shell
A light that grows the longer it has shined
Drinking deeply from life's endless well.
But you, your smile like everything is right,
Your eyes, so dark and oh, so far away
Couldn't you ever look upon my light
And maybe ever hear these words I say?
I look at you and wonder if it's true-
Couldn't you ever learn to see me, too?
