Can Simple Pleasures in These Times be Found? - Sonnet Eight
Can simple pleasures in these times be found?
Can simple smiles be found of simple things?
For pleasures now seem in complexions bound,
That simple ways can only boredom bring.
Recalling times when simple kisses raised
Our spirits’ high in simple vers’ed song,
That filled our mouths simple verdant praise,
That brought us simple joys in night’s prolong.
But then with tapes and screens our fare was made
Of acrobat contortions ever more,
In circus’ acts and magic tricks displayed,
With physics problems bent and spread before.
I long for simple days of life's return
To mouths that fill with love in passions' yearn!
Can simple smiles be found of simple things?
For pleasures now seem in complexions bound,
That simple ways can only boredom bring.
Recalling times when simple kisses raised
Our spirits’ high in simple vers’ed song,
That filled our mouths simple verdant praise,
That brought us simple joys in night’s prolong.
But then with tapes and screens our fare was made
Of acrobat contortions ever more,
In circus’ acts and magic tricks displayed,
With physics problems bent and spread before.
I long for simple days of life's return
To mouths that fill with love in passions' yearn!
