We'll erect no monuments here.

We'll erect no monuments here.
Only hectors of land filled with crosses, coffins and headstones.
We'll erect no statues here,
Only man and women in goodwill suits and frozen open ground.

The ground waiting to swallow, mothers that walk miles barefoot with babies on their backs to fetch water from the river and fire wood from the forest.

The frozen ground waiting to engulf the fathers who work the deep mines from 6am to 7pm.
Fathers that have forgotten the look of their children faces trying to make enough to put bread on the table.

The unforgiving ground ready to swallow that HIV positive orphan daughter that had to sell herself to strangers just to keep her siblings in school.

The cruel ground that eats brothers that had to head a home at the age of 14 years, having to rely on the darkness of the night and the oak in his hand to survive.
We'll erect no monuments here,
We'll dig wide open this earth.
This earth where a child has to write a home work under a rock with a dwindling candle and go to school on an empty stomach.

No we'll not build a monument valley for you that remain,
We'll ready our goodwill suits, crosses and coffins for you.
Your only memory that will remain is ashes to ashes, and dust to dust.
Buried under the rubble of mankind failure.
We'll erect no monuments here.
