Arguments
As I read a few pieces and the resulting comments/replies posted in 2017, (I can not consider them poems, as in my meaningless opinion, poems, whether rhyming or otherwise, should have some socially redeeming value), it was reinforced, as is my belief, the mixing of fire and water once again resulted in nothing more than steamy hot air.
The status of this write, as to it being a poem within my self imposed belief, I shall leave to the reader.

Very good observation and point, Terri. Especially in regards to the syllable counter.
Thank goodness we only utilize the word counter.

Thanks for posting that link. I've tried it on a few things and it works well with that exception. (kept saying 'gone' had two syllables along with several other words that weren't right. I tried writing that Haiku on it and 17 syllables kept coming up 23 or something like that).

You's a poet and didn't know it :-)
And yes, your comment sentence was a poem, in my meaningless opinion.

"Poet Introduction
A poetess? I shall leave that determination to others."
well Sis..you have every right to believe and hold your opinion/views aout those pieces of work. yes they are your works. yes, you own them. But you do not own the right to judge them for others... being blunt here... now i refer to the above quote...extracted from your profile!

no aruguments from this cold idiot...just an expression an uninterrupted, undiluted one! you if you want take it as honest critique ... critique or not... it is honest!

First and FOREMOST! I take great exception to "cold idiot", for you, my brother are anything but.
A poetess? I shall leave that determination to others."
Each person has a right to opinions, and yes, those could be called judgements, actually when I think about it, I can not see any case where they would not, and in following this line of thought, all of us place judgements on nearly every thought we have. Can it be imagined, a world with no opinions? Every disagreement/agreement is based on opinion, therefore judgement. Kind of tough to wrap ones head around, (even that thought is an opinion/determination/judgement).
To my way of thinking, a judgement is an opinion, that does not come in to play until it is used in a detrimental way to inflect hurt and mental anguish upon another person, therefore we should not judge.
Your comment was an opinion, and did not become a judgement because it was not intended to hurt or cause mental anguish. It was purely stating your perspective, and did not, in any way, cause anguish, in fact quite the contrary, for it has lead to this exchange of ideas and perspectives, which is being engaged in a calm, hopefully mature, and meaningful way.
As to "my meaningless opinion" a poem or poetry should have some socially redeeming value; this I will stand behind simply because any write, piece, poem, or poetry written with the express intent to hurt another has no socially redeeming value.
And finally: " it was reinforced, as is my belief, the mixing of fire and water once again resulted in nothing more than steamy hot air."
Nothing was accomplished within the complete write, comments, and replies that settled the disagreement, simply due the lack of cool heads exchanging meaningful dialog.
And in closing, I, my dear and cherished brother, wish I could place a kiss upon your cheek, and a loving pat on your hind side for this opportunity to discuss and exchange in a meaningful way, and if in the event we still find ourselves at odds, rest assured I have gained even more respect for you.

Alright!!
i take my words back with an apology! not so cold idiot i am! lol apology is sincere the pun is in jest. Jokes apart ...dear Sis!
well arguments are not necessairly negative. i grew up being hammered with the old saying there, disagreements/arguments between scholars are a blessing for the general populace, for there is much knowledge shared and gained in the process. So i salute your gesture, lighting of this lamp! Thank You Teri!
Nope, i can't imagine a world without disagreements or a world where there is only one opinion/determination/judgement!
No matter what and how you call a piece of gold, the fact remains the same. Determining it is a matter for the ability of the observer. Some might be experts for they KNOW what makes gold gold... not just its color.
I agree totally a judgement is an opinion. But it is only accepted universally if the judge is an authority, someone qualified to perform those duties. Their opinion is accepted.... i would on any day accept from any of the DU poets who are true artists and command respect for their craft, as proper folks to judge, and i will take their opinion on works closed eyes. For they are experts in their craft. i won't bring myself in there... matter is abou You Sis! so if you're happy to leave that determination to "others'...well ..NEWSFLASH... i bet most of the "others" here on DU agree you're a poet! :-)
SIs! i agree re the pelting of intentional and unjust hurt in art form has no redeeming value!
Apologies again for keeping away so far from this gem of a work whose intent is to enlighten the grounds it is placed upon! just been too busy distracting self Sis! pardon me...
well.. the affection is welcomed open arms Sis! i will be as cold as ever in putting forth my disagreement and i know you're way more than wise to see it for what it is! Thank You for the peck and the pat!! felt the warmth dear Sis!

Yes, herein lies an example of opinions being exchanged vs judgements being passed.
And, it is again reinforced by the simple fact of neither of us pissing on the others flame. :-)))
