HAPPY OR SAD DREAMS?
HAPPY OR SAD DREAMS?
Town of lovely days, where are you now?
Why don't you appear much more in dreams?
They were days of charm when l lived there,
between your low river and the sky.
Days of greatest charm l spent in you
with a childless couple, old and kind.
There my father was so kind to come
and behold my life if it was calm.
Mum made sweets for me, but that old dame
Loved their taste, so l left them for her.
That provoked the anger of my mum
as she'd made them for her dearest son.
Days have passed. All those are now mere thoughts.
They're what time has burnt as tinder stuff,
building present time, and him, who writes
whispers from those dear, and distant past.
