At The Local Precinct (age 1yr)👶🏻
( a haiku renga )
endless stretch of street
noonday sun on cut green grass
my first walk alone
•🌿👶🏻🌱•
two nice men in black
stop in a big black and white
one lifts me — Daddy?
•🌿👶🏻🌱•
a young officer
feeds me from a pudding cup
Mom bursts in, I laugh
endless stretch of street
noonday sun on cut green grass
my first walk alone
•🌿👶🏻🌱•

stop in a big black and white
one lifts me — Daddy?

The detail of a distant memory, bits, fragments of details, colors, tastes, it is well suited to the format you chose. I hope you did well in the comp.

Thank you, Daniel... hmm, I don’t know the results yet, the comp won’t be closing for about another 30 hours. However it goes, I enjoyed writing about these tiny vignettes being such a small child. 👶🏻ga ga

Haha, :P I have memories from my first couple years. Laying on a blanket before the enormous television screen. My sister and her friend pushing me in the stroller, pretending to lose their grip and panic, unscrewing my crib so I could escape and get to the light and noise in the other room.

Hi Daniel. Since you were so kind to mention it, I thought I would update you how it went with the comp results... My little poem of memories placed 1st, so that pudding cup turned into a trophy cup. I wish I had a pudding cup right now.

lol she is a character, no doubt.
I'm glad you did well! I am certain you deserved it.
I have only joined a few comps. I only write whatever overcomes me and demands to erupt, I am the conduit and discover the message of my writes only in reflection, not unlike the readers. My process is not unlike what the oracles of Delphi must've experienced as they inhaled vapors and were overcome with utterances they believed were from some source beyond them.

I totally hear you, friend ( if I may ). And you remind me of how years ago, a poet wrote a little haiku/senryu in tribute of me:
at Delphi
I ask her name
Which says everything to me.
And as for competitions ( which I did successfully in the global arena long before I came to DU ), I do them whenever the muse wants to see where I can take it, the challenge. I’ve never competed with fellow entrants, but with myself. I’m continuously stretching, going outside the box, well from my comfort zone. Heh. I do that when I’m not participating. In short, I wind up writing works that would not have existed otherwise.
I thank you again for your involved comments/ responses. I’m amazed we weren’t doing this year’s before.

Hm. Excellent perspective. The challenge itself is inspiring. Maya Angelou said, "You can't use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have."
I've been reading a book called Consilience, the Unity of Knowledge. It's section about artificial consciousness was fascinating. It detailed the intrinsic component of emotion in consciousness, it's intrinsic fullness of range of senses and interaction with the microcosm one inhabits. It is the reason, the book purports, artificial intelligence fails to achieve artificial consciousness. The efficiency of the biological machine has dimensions of awareness nothing artificial can yet broach. I mention this because of the concept of creativity that is wholly unique to the evolved neo cortext of the homo sapien. Not reactive, but a proactive ability to envision and re-envision concepts and ideas. Our creativity, adaptablity and ability to work in tandem places us atop the animal kingdom in a world where it seems every other species has adapted senses far finer and broader into the light and electromagnetic spectrums. We've evolved our own means, beyond evolutionary epigenetics, to achieve broad and ever expanding awareness. That is something I always enjoy seeing in the art of others, pure creativity, it is rather divine.
