Monument To Blair
We greeted the morning with a spring in our step
In our own peculiar way,
For we knew in our hearts
For little ‘Blair Hamilton’
It was his special day.
Richard was the man,for he gathered the clan
And headed straight for
The tranquil Hinze Dam.
On to the bank we went and set up
The stretch tent,
Although the land proved quite stoney.
It mattered not as though nothing could stop ,
Blair Hamilton Mcdiarmid’s naming ceremony.
We soldiered on and made the tent look a treat
Without ever becoming rushed off our feet –
Absorbing the vibrant energy of
The beauty all around ,
We greeted the arrival of the rest of the clan
Who were equally impressed
With the splendid surrounds.
After some social mingling ,
The clan closer gathered ‘round ,
As Rob the M.C was about to
Get proceedings off the ground .
Well , the formalities were stirring
As we all stood in alliance ,
Witness to blessed
Words of suppliance ,
Purveyed with humility
By a proud mum and dad .
Grandparents ,and
Letters from sisters and brothers ,
And kind words of praise
From a host of others .
Only one thing left to do
Was the conviction of most ,
Welcome ‘Blair Hamilton’
With a champagne toast .
So we lifted our glasses ,
Cleared our throats
And sang ‘He’s a Jolly Good Fellow’
To the dear little bloke .
The day didn’t end there ,
No , not in the least ,
We shared in the delights
Of an impromtu feast –
And as we ate and
Shared laughs and shed tears ,
Some of the folk relaxed on a few beers
Whilst the children played football
Amongst their peers .
Yes all in all
It had been a splendid day ,
When the ranger drove past
And we gave a nervous wave ,
But he didn’t stop which meant we could stay ,
So we relaxed once again
And continued on our way .
Later on , as the day grew long ,
The guests had begun to fare ,
So we packed up the tent
And homeward we went
And recounted this Monument to Blair .
