The Questions of Life

   I
Are humans inherently good or bad?
It is a question many have wondered.
Do humans prefer to see others glad?
Or do they love watching others blunder?

Have the forces of good and evil changed?
Can actions once dreadful, someday be good?
Laws are always changed, values rearranged.
Something today, may be misunderstood.

How does good and bad range across the Earth?
In some places, oppression is a norm
While others, without freedom have no worth.
And when these folks meet- there’s often a storm.

Good and evil, people often contest.
Just like what occurs, with social justice.
      II
How were prejudice and bias conceived?
How were we trained to hate another man,
Based on their skin color. Who was deceived?
Or, is our misplaced malice, some god’s plan?

Is censorship ever necessary?
Should the truth of the world be concealed?
Or will it make us all sedentary?
This solution, may never be revealed.

Can literature change society?
Do the books and articles we consume
Give us a much needed variety
Of viewpoints, thus changing what we assume.

Social Justice has been discussed for years.
Like culture, something the uninformed fear.

       III
What  shapes our values and our opinions?
Is it our parents, friends, community
Or something bigger- that turns the millions
Into a group without much unity.

What changes our opinions over time?
Schooling, or experiences, or both?
What motivates us to step out of line?
And take on life with a unique approach.

What should we do when our beliefs contrast
Those endorsed by our own society
Should we speak up, and become an outcast
Or lie low and dodge notoriety

Culture is changing and has been for years
But in the future it may disappear.

     IV
Life’s questions- we may never answer them
And there may be  no real purpose of life
But even if our lives are full of mayhem
We should live life happily without strife.
