Maria's Baptism

Stood there
in her white dress
-her left breast bare -
as each one in the crowd approached
placing a gift at her feet,
then, discretely walking away.

He was the last to show
- so, she thought for sometime -
came near her holding a needle,
pricked his finger,
left a blood drop on her dress under the waist
and three on her bare breast.

"One", he said, "indicates a period.
Three are called an ellipsis.
I shall call you, Maria.
May all your moments of ecstasy
be filled with grammar!"...
