the difference between lonely and alone

It’s 3 am,
I’m awake,
Nightmares plaguing my conscious.

Everyone’s asleep,
No one is there.
It's me and myself alone.

I'm shaking,
I'm crying.
They're all asleep,
They're not there.
I'm hurting,
But it's not their fault.

I am alone,
Fending off my subconscious,
Begging,
Pleading,
For a simple text back.
For someone,
Anyone.


Its temporary,
I'm okay.

I am not alone,
I am lonely,
I am needy.

If I was truly alone,
They would never text back,
But they'll be there tomorrow,
They always have been.
They always will be.

The difference between lonely and alone,
I am temporary lonely.
But I have never been truly, alone.
