The prospect of bringing someone into this life.

three weeks ago i learned that my girlfriend was pregnant,
so i wrote this piece.
but it only last week that i learned the child wasn't mine.
i didn't know what to do with this piece anymore.
feelings have changed what was once excitement turned into heartbreak.
yet i wasn't going to let such a good piece go to waste.

I've seen all the ultra sounds,
 and I've felt you kick.
Day by day,
I see you grow and blossom like the flowers of spring.
I swear I've never seen anything so beautiful in this life.
Fate has finally found me, I see the light.
To behold something so precious and divine.
The prospect of bringing someone into this life.

I don't know if it's joy or fear, that I'm feeling.
I've never had a father figure in my life.
I don't know the love of a father in this life.
I was not taught ways of man through this life.
So how do I give you what I didn't have?
How do I teach you what I wasn't thaught?
I try to keep a positive mind,
And I surely can't wait to welcome you to this other side.
To hold you with my hands,
And gaze into your eyes.
The prospect of bringing someone into this life.

Now that I know you're on your way,
I begin to fear
And question myself what kind of father will I ever be?
Doubt is haunting me.
But through it all, you make me smile.
You give me a reason to be thankful for every single day in this life.
You've come between the barriers of myself and I.
Unlocked my eyes and opened something graceful In my heart.
I surely can't wait to welcome you to this other side.
To hold you with my hands,
And gaze into your eyes.
The prospect of bringing someone into this life.
