Star-cross'd lovers
Across a busy bar
I watch you arrive
Radiant smile from afar
I see your face
Make-up applied
New outfit of
Silk and lace
Now you are here
admire your grace
I see elegance, a touch of grey
when you smile; laughter lines
No longer a youth
but still tingles my spine
A woman I see
Independant, confident
living her life, living free
Making choices to love
and be loved
by him, by her, by me
Oh, what entanglement!
what web we weave
with lovers and partners
separate to protect
or maybe deceive?
Shakespearean tragedy
we have here on our step
be it Antony and Cleopatra
or Romeo and Juliet
Lamentable or laughable
the stress and intensity
palpable
Yet for tonight that
thought brushed aside
by the pleasure of your company
as arm in arm, in plain sight we hide
chivalrous and decorous are we
as through the throng we glide
Paris and Helen amongst the Trojans
Craving space for our sweet tête-à-tête
I watch you arrive
Radiant smile from afar
I see your face
Make-up applied
New outfit of

Now you are here

I see elegance, a touch of grey
when you smile; laughter lines
