In Our Ruins
Standing out on solid rock;
locked, despite the storm;
bolted by the ankle, shelter free
Feel the waves and rain
lashing at your feet
Perhaps you have more
than bolt and ankle chain
Is it more than the boundary line
of a would be seaside mansion?
Is it stone walls blasted by cannon
and the roof caved in?
I can tell you are cold and wet
the shelter won't cover you
but I know you’re really no fool
if only I could keep you dry
I can only stand at your porch and cry
Can't we do this another way?
Love made me choose to do it;
made my house on your stormy beach
Before an army hailing frozen tears
I sit against a broken wall,
Kiss a cornerstone
And rest out of the wind
locked, despite the storm;
bolted by the ankle, shelter free
Feel the waves and rain
lashing at your feet
Perhaps you have more
than bolt and ankle chain
Is it more than the boundary line
of a would be seaside mansion?
Is it stone walls blasted by cannon
and the roof caved in?
I can tell you are cold and wet
the shelter won't cover you
but I know you’re really no fool
if only I could keep you dry
I can only stand at your porch and cry
Can't we do this another way?
Love made me choose to do it;
made my house on your stormy beach
Before an army hailing frozen tears
I sit against a broken wall,
Kiss a cornerstone
And rest out of the wind
