New Year’s Eve, 2018
This time last year, I was planning a wedding.
My wedding.
I was...
No. I’m not doing this.
I’m not going to dwell on what I lost.
I know what I lost -
I lost damn near everything.
But
I gained more than I would have thought possible.
I have my independence.
I have support and encouragement.
I have a new start with old friends,
My son and my language.
I have a purpose and a plan.
I have hope.
Whatever else happens,
Whatever 2019 brings,
I have hope
And sometimes, that’s enough.
My wedding.
