Fear
I fear to touch you
With these hands
Fear that you may turn
To a pillar of sands
I fear to love you
With my heart
The weakness in me
May tear you apart
I fear to hold you
Within my soul
Never knowing
If you’ll return whole
I fear to let you
Inside my mind
Scared that you’ll be repulsed
By what you find
I fear to behold you
With my ardent gaze
That your eyes may see
Through my deceptive haze
But to love is to fear
And fear this I do
Shall I ever utter
That I love you?
With these hands
Fear that you may turn
To a pillar of sands
I fear to love you
With my heart
The weakness in me
May tear you apart
I fear to hold you
Within my soul
Never knowing
If you’ll return whole
I fear to let you
Inside my mind
Scared that you’ll be repulsed
By what you find
I fear to behold you
With my ardent gaze
That your eyes may see
Through my deceptive haze
But to love is to fear
And fear this I do
Shall I ever utter
That I love you?

Fear not! This is fine work about the expression of love. To say "I love you" to someone for the first time is scary indeed. If it's not reciprocated, it's devastating, hence the fear. A love poem with an emotional wallop.

Thank you Crowfly. Yes, self doubt has been the destroyer of many 'happily ever afters'.

Fear is what stops us, but it should be the adrenaline converter that propels us into decisive action. Remember 'Faint heart never won a fair lady' . Good ink Rjm.

Ha, thank you DR - I think truer words have never been spoken - women, like fortune, favour the bold.
