What if science were able...
What if science were able to change human nature... ?
make us less awful than we're prone to be...
sounds OK... we'd get along
I just wonder down the line...
what the result would be?
One is reminded of the 60's...
we decided to quench every wildfire
in the forest and out on the plains
it seemed like a good idea at the time...
but we had no idea what a monster we were making...
Now some forty years later... the ghost arose...
with what we have wrought has come only more pain.
Forests burn with such vengeance there are no survivors...
not a microbe left alive. Earth is rended sterile and empty of life.
So... I ask, What if science were able to change human nature....?

... as with all science & technology, the so-called "side-effects" are just simply "effects" - proving we haven't understood what we're fiddling with. Good technology has no bad side-effects - as the ancients knew.

" "Side effect" is a misnomer," ... Spot on there, Ely - there's no such thing as a 'side-effect'. There are only effects. The word "side-effects" has been invented by scientists to cover up the fact their inventions are not in tune with Mother Nature.

this is a hard hitting poem,
things that we've turned away from and turned a blind eye
come back to engulf us completely.

That's part of the problem that I see... if we muck with any part of us ... like aggression, what else will come to be?
