$2.50 to travel the world
I'll just say first off, that although this is my first post, It's not the type of poem I normally write - I don't know if I even like this to be honest. It's not a good poem, but I'm posting it because it's different, odd. It might seem clichéd/pretentious.[/font]
$2.50 to travel the world[/font]
I wander dark, dark paths[/font]
to loose myself in bloody horizons[/font]
in the corner of the post office[/font]
the wolves bray[/font]
my spine tingles, my blood freezes[/font]
or so the letters say[/font]
$2.50 to travel the world[/font]
I charged it to my soul[/font]
guess I'm broke,[/font]
Send my dreams collect[/font]
I'll find another way[/font]
I dance with wolves[/font]
on the cinema screen[/font]
I lost myself in worlds[/font]
flat and green[/font]
I found the answer in a cross-word puzzle[/font]
but I don't know what it means[/font]
Inscribed in Greek[/font]
set in tarnished bronze[/font]
a door contemplates, dictates;[/font]
I'm going home[/font]
to where I've never been[/font]
to remember things[/font]
I've never seen[/font]
To play the devils advocate:[/font]
I'm chasing you to find regret[/font]
better than I thought[/font]
worse than they said[/font]
In the multiple choice[/font]
failed by spelling[/font]
I complained to the face of vanity[/font]
leaping on the table[/font]
I shouted my apologies[/font]
I've misplaced my sanity, I declared[/font]
Not every hero is pure[/font]
and we can't always be sure[/font]
that we want to win[/font]
they called the pigs[/font]
but the description doesn't fit me[/font]
I've fooled the cameras[/font]
I've fooled everyone[/font]
flipping burgers[/font]
but I'm really on the run.[/font]
Baby, I declared, I'm off to save the world[/font]

I adore this poem, and have no idea why you should so dislike it. Where is the cliché? Where are the pretensions? It's a subtle, compelling, dark and strange piece of verse, which startles with it's inventive use of imagery and metaphor.

I like it, it makes a twisted sort of sense to me, but everyone is their own worst critic.

do wolves bray?
the second use of wolves feels a little niggly.
the penultimate verse feels a bit flat (weak) for me.
loved verse 1 through 4
and the last as well. not sure about the last line, for me it feels a little forced. (maybe too blase)
that said i really enjoyed the read.
the odd cliche that is in there doesn't spoil it any as far as i can see, (if anything i think they're needed.)
good write.
