some people don’t get along
but it hurts twice as much
when I used to sing your praises
back when you were just ah punk
played guitar in a rock band
we talked for hours about how you hated your dad
said you were going to be a big star
now I look at you and think
what the fuck happened?
yeah, I know people change
I was happy when you joined the army
looked like you were finally becoming a man
once you came home things weren’t the same
talked about women like garbage
far right republican
now it was all about deep state and conspiracies
you saw may skin yet talked racism
seemed you were planning the next civil war
but we don’t have to wait
we can go toe to toe

last time we talked was on Facebook

told me it was because of my political views

hope you got the reference
i’ll always remember that kid forever
the one who rebelled against society
