Father Time
A few years back
I took this picture of my dad
Now he looks like my grandpa
Can't stop the hands of the clock
I remember him doing carpentry
His heartbeat
That must be where I get my skils
From my daddy
Brut aftershave and the smell
of fresh lumber
He's always been my hero
We adventured and traveled
I absorbed what he taught
Can't stop the hands of the clock
I remember him loving me
His baby
That must be where I get my parenting
From my daddy
Sleepless nights and the biggest hugs
I'm glad he's still above ground
He loves tall tales and kidding around
I wish we had more talks
Can't stop the hands of the clock
I remember him in his 40's
My age
That must be where I get my gray
From my daddy
Copenhagen tobacco and
the occasional cigarette
I will miss him when he's gone
Keeping his wisdom and wit
For my own
The one regret of my thoughts
Can't stop the hands of the clock
Louis L'amour and sometimes
Stephen King

A man and his daughter just as it should be. You do him proud with this piece. Nice of you to share especially with those that didn't have someone there

I never had him enough. Saw him once or so a month. But the time we had, was and is what I make of it.

I love this. So much. I spend a fair amount of time with my dad now that he has retired and I realize how he can’t do things quite the way he used to. Time is slowing him down a little. It’s a weird thing to recognize.

Yeah, show him your poem, better now than at his funeral. That's one thing about funerals that annoy me. People often gush about the deceased but don't you think it'd be better if they heard it from the horse's mouth? ;-)
It's a touching tribute.

I plan to give it to him. I'm helping him design a cover for his new book so still getting some time together thankfully.

And could you nick a few of his ideas from the book, lol? not that you need to, ok.
It all sounds very interesting & nice to have a hand in this project with your Father I'm sure. :-)

It's a good story. See, he has been going blind and the veterans hospital has been teaching him "blind life skills" before he totally loses all sight. So he learned to type and has been writing through his retirement.

Loving living tribute ...

This reminds me of The Loop with all the “cant stop the hands of the clock”. Fantastic ode to a seemingly fantastic man

Yes, certainly time was in my thinking when I wrote this. And knowing that you can't go back.
