Tiger’s Honor

( a Rensaku: linked Tanka )

While you are away
from my scent —
the Underworld
in serpent’s split lava flow
keeps you from me.

But while I am away
on head of a diamond —
Pele’s grove
of hummingbird trees
in phallus upheaval.

When you are gone
no longer in ascent,
you are in the farthest
corners from the Buddha;
‘Nen nen fu ri shin’.

But when I am gone,
under slumbering sun, I
stalk the fevered riverbank
for one who keeps
your eyes averted.

”Nen nen fu ri shin” means
"Thought after thought are not separate from mind."
