Future Tenses
Sometimes I look forward and I feel this cavern open in my chest. The stars go out and that future of ours that seemed so bright bright bright is nothingness.
Sometimes I look forward and I see our foundations tremble and split us apart and you say we'll be alright and I want nothing more than to believe you but in the moment I see nothing more than shattered glass and the remnants of your love spilling onto the pavement. And I wonder what damned us.
But
Sometimes when I look forward I see delicate purple flowers painted on the walls above a crib. I see soft lights and shining smiles and laughter to last centuries. Sometimes I see the way you hold yourself with strength and pride and then I see you hold us with tenderness. I see new places and faces and that old familiar feeling of home you drag around behind you.
Sometimes I see hope
-on why I'm scared of looking past tomorrow
