I Have A Friend
I have a friend,
A great friend,
A beautiful friend,
She looks like death has warmed over,
But she is so beautiful.
I have a friend,
Who acts like the world is a weight,
Who wonders the point of it,
She has days where the weight of everything makes her look down,
She has days where the weight has lessened,
I wish she told me which days are which.
I have a friend,
Who scares me unlike anything else,
Because she never tells me if the world is made of water or if its made of gold.
She is terrifying,
Because one day she will stop being my friend,
She won't say goodbye,
Because she worries I won't care.
I have a friend,
A great friend,
Who's smile I haven't seen in years,
Who's eyes I keep forgetting the colour of,
Who's thighs are a matchbook for the small problems,
Who's wrists are healing from the scratches of an untrained 'dog',
Who tells me, all these stories,
About how death is scary.
I have a friend who is scared of the ocean,
She tells me that drowning is not like falling asleep.
She tells me that the grim reaper is not kind-
He will not take my soul with dull fingertips and the patience of a thousand suns,
He will not give the peace of mind to say goodbye,
And he will not hold my hand on the way out.
I have a friend,
Who I love,
Who I wish could tell me how she feels,
Who I wish could look into the story sky with more than a hunger for nothing,
I have a friend,
She is so beautiful,
But I wish she would look at me.
A great friend,
A beautiful friend,
She looks like death has warmed over,
But she is so beautiful.
