The upright young man and his future wife -
The symbols of potential new life? -
Beside me in the pew take their places
Amidst this sea of much older faces,
Come to hear reading of their marriage banns,
Light at tunnel's end of their wedding plans
And the busyness of preparation
For such an auspicious celebration.

Inspired by the young couple who sat next to me in church on a Sunday morning. Since I wrote this, they are still together and have become parents.
