Daddy wasn't there
Decided to go see my pops and show him the new hair on my face,
I drove up and like he's been for the last 11 years he was there still sitting in that same place
I smiled and with a "hey pops" just started to ramble a bit
And told him I was only passing by, on my way to taking trip
With him I relived moments and smiled
And knew he was proud of the man who is still his child
I told him moms was doing well and still devoted in the church
Sis brought a house and for a man was still in search
I stood up straight and said dad look how big I've got
How smooth I am but it's to be expected cause you are the coolest pops
How hot it was and neither one of us like the sun
But catching up on old times was so much fun
And while he listen I got the since he was so proud of me
As though I had become everything he had wish me to be
I told him how i was boxing and he should come to a fight
Cause it was him who taught me how to double up on the left and land that right
Man oh man how time flew remembering the good times and everything we been through
But it was time to go now, so I kissed him with a promised not to forget anything he said
A tear dropped, I must admit I didn't visit often so I felt a little sad
I forgave him for not being there when I needed him, because I had no right to be mad
Then I cleaned dead flowers from his grave and walked away saying
"I love you and cant wait to talk to you again Dad"
