Mars Landing
there is no one
there is nowhere
there is no thing
there's only air
first drawn in
and then expelled
ego shrinks
from when it swelled
only rhythms
natural
we've lost control
and we now fall
towards a world
we've never been
parachuting
we are in
the last approach
before we land
into a storm
onto the sand
in our minds
what was a dream
is now obscured
cannot be seen
Earth now seems
so far away
as we touch down
where we must stay
there is nowhere
there is no thing
there's only air
first drawn in
and then expelled
ego shrinks
from when it swelled
only rhythms
natural
we've lost control
and we now fall
towards a world
we've never been
parachuting
we are in
the last approach
before we land
into a storm
onto the sand
in our minds
what was a dream
is now obscured
cannot be seen
Earth now seems
so far away
as we touch down
where we must stay
Author's Note
Currently a global dust storm engulfs Mars..the 1st successful Mars landing by the Soviet Union was lost after landing in such a storm. This poem is episode 1 of a crewed landing on Mars.

Nicely written, Lawrence. Supposedly the first manned mission to Mars will be in the 2030s. I guess we'll see.

I'm not a feminist who easily gets offended by a word simply because it has the word "man" in it. Whether it's "manned" or "crewed" is irrelevant to me.

I didn't mean to touch a nerve...I just like accuracy in language...a personal obsession...

You didn't touch a nerve, Lawrence. I respect your want for language accuracy. I, on the other hand, am not so concerned with the words as long as they make sense for the idea I want to express.
