So easy to cease being civil... and it never makes for improved communication.

People don't know how to debate without getting personal. They don't know how to agree to disagree without harboring resentment.

When we were young we were taught not to discuss certain things in school, e.g. - religion, politics, etc. To me, those are the very differences that cause war through fear and ignorance.

Perhaps if we were taught how to discuss our differences reasonably, we wouldn't be so scared of another who believed and lived differently.

"Come, let us reason together."

A noble sentiment, indeed...
I have found that humor is often helpful as a defusing device...  
But ... just like many a well intention, it can be subverted and weaponized.
As long as the public fall for the fearmongering, tolerate substandard
education and corrupt politics... and, (speaking of weaponized words?)

Thanks for your appreciation... and by the way, indeed roses do, "stink", according to the Bard... In Shakespeares day the word stink was the what was available for what we now call a smell.

And no, I don't think that one has to write in a certain style in order to appreciate others.
You are cheating yourself...

I am very fond of one particular poet's style, though I care less for her subject material, which is not to my taste.
I still read her work...she's very good at what she does... and I am certainly capable of separating the two.
One does need to broaden the horizons once in a while. *J1
