The Fall of the Princess

The Princess sat in her castle when the news came from messengers galore.
The Emperor was coming and had quite a fate in store.
The messengers offered riches, comfort, and safety.
If only she would submit.
She had wounded his ambassador once. The price for that would be high.
The Princess heeded her adviser and to each offer declined.
The messengers changed to show this fate. The stories with horror told.
Still she could not believe them. She showed each of them the door.
One day the messengers stopped coming.
Instead, the armies invaded. The blackened soldiers marched through the fields.
The people fell before their blades. The fields began to burn.
The Princess watched from her castle safe wondering what had occurred.
She turned to question her adviser, but he had gone to smoke.
Nobody around had a clue about what had happened to him.

The longer the invasion went on, the greater the carnage spread.
In days the castle was surrounded. Nobody seemed to have escaped.
The Princess pondered her situation. She began to realize her grim fate.
If she could not placate these armies, she would have her head on a plate.

That night she sneaked through her household.
The princess started burning fires in the stables and granaries.
She started backstabbing her guards.
She quietly tiptoed into bedrooms slaying each royal with haste.
If she could not win their favor, her life would be laid to waste.

When all the soldiers were slain and the fire smoke billowed to the sky,
the princess of the castle lowered the gates.
The soldiers marched in for their emperor.
They found her waiting in the courtyard smiling dressed in her best ballroom gown.
She was waiting for the emperor who she would bow to and avert the worst consequences of her mistakes.
But he did not appear among the hordes. The dark armored troops surrounded her quick.
She asked where their master was so that she may finally submit.
Never a word did they answer. They grabbed her firmly by the arms.
She cried out for the emperor to hear and to free her.
He did not appear.
As she was dragged away, she screamed and kicked. She called out for mercy, for forgiveness for her mistakes.

Nobody would hear her nor mercy would show her. The Fate she met her arrogance had fore laid. Her screams and her cries would echo for the following weeks, filling the halls and air with the sound. Nobody would ever come to rescue her.
The Princess would never escape.
