Image for the poem Mata Hari

Mata Hari

She lived her life in garish hues
A seduction and delight
The lady didn't sing the blues
But conspired to steal the night

She danced with a certain flow
Garbed in a jeweled bra
Bangles offering their glow
On skin spared the slightest flaw

She took men of wealth and fame
Acquired the stature of a star
Denounced for her lack of shame
But her mystique still traveled far

Accused of being a German spy
Put to death by firing squad
Bullets drove her spirit high
While she heard the world applaud.
