Summertime

Summertime's coming -
summertime came,
arching her back to the sun's vibrations
It was worth every minute of the winter wait
to hear her say my name.

Kinda like she missed me - she crashes on my chest, just trembling
Window wide, songbirds for assembly
They perch on the sill just listening in
to this bright bedroom that my drowsy voice is filling to the brim
with summertime hymns -
coffee talkin', I can't get it off the subject
I'm 10 AM fresh for the time of year the spirit resurrects
and rides the day's slow wave, cool morning to warm finish
It's like French-pressed nectar, black, bold, heaven-sent
substance that has been blessed - what they pour you at Brennan's
When the street starts sizzling, the first kiss comes:
lip-locked by the equinox; those eyelashes flutter up
April days drizzle, you watchin' her come to;
by May, the flowers wake and make her rosy blush move
Up in the sun's clutches; you ravenous come June -
You two all tangled up - Ain't she somethin' wonderful to wake to?

Summertime's coming -
summertime came,
arching her back to the sun's vibrations
It was worth every minute of the winter wait
to hear her say my name.
