Inempathy

Who am I to tell you how to be?
As long as you are you and I am me
there is no rule that dictates empathy

No one says we have to care for them
They are other, strange, but if and when
there is a time that makes the not-rule bend

Challenge being one of many things
That life presents and we in turn will bring
to make excuse for hate chants that we sing

Challenge being challenge, it is true
That you will challenge me as I do you
Challenge being something we go through

What to say of those who do not feel?
Does lack of empathy force them to steal
the thoughts and prayers of those who pray for real?

History repeats itself again
With war on war on war that all wars ends
and death comes in the thousands by the tens

Sympathetic, apathetic, still—
We are selfish creatures by our will
(selfish meaning lack of care who kills)

Also lack of care for those who died
Lack of care for those who rules defied
and in the end we say, “At least they tried.”
