Backseat
I’m here on my own
The backseat is now where I live
Admiring you from behind
As you sit in the passenger seat
With him
He takes over the driver’s seat
That’s where I used to be
All cosy and warm you are
In the front two seats
I think the heater is broken here
Because a chill grows inside me
My blood freezes and my heart stops
As the frost builds on the window
I’m dying back here
But you seem to be unable to hear
Your eyes glued to the windscreen
Trusting him to take you
To where you wish you wanna be
But he’s just taking you away from me
But it’s okay
I’ll call out for help to the streets
I’ll scream banging on the window
Asking, pleading for help
But they can’t seem to hear me
The wind howls outside
And you can’t hear me either
He turns up the a/c
The fan drowns out my cries
But I’m thinking now
Why can’t they see me?
With a canvas of pain painted across me
I’m thinking can they not see?
But these windows must be tinted
I’m glaring into a world unknown
And they just look in to see nothing
It seems noone can see the pain I’m in
Except one person
Through the rear view mirror he smirks
Knowing I’m unable to reach you
He keeps an eye on me whilst pleasing you
I’m still trailing behind
You won’t look back
Eyes fixed on the journey ahead
There’s no end to this one way road
But look back
Sneak a peek through the side mirror
Look at what you’re leaving behind
You’re speeding ahead but in the fumes
In the fumes you’ll find me trailing
Hoping that you’ll do a U turn
And come back to the past with me
But it’s too late
The doors are locked
There’ll be no changing seats
So I’m stuck here
On my own
Travelling this road on the backseat
The backseat is now where I live
Admiring you from behind
As you sit in the passenger seat
With him
He takes over the driver’s seat
That’s where I used to be
All cosy and warm you are
In the front two seats
