Mum

Mum
I try to remember the good times
But the bad just creep on in
I have one memory of being in your arms
You looking at me
And
There is a smile on your face
But
It’s not my memory
It’s a sepia toned photograph
Bound tightly in a memory book
I no longer look at

Mum
Why do you hate me so
Where was the love a child
Should be showered with?
Not once did the words tumble from your lips
I
Love
You
All I met was silence.

Mum
It’s been many years since
I have been in your presence
And I tell myself
Distance does not
make the heart
Grow
Fonder
It continues to remind me
I was never good enough
For you

Mum
I wish you all the happiness in the world
And pray you find the love you deserve
I’m just sorry
I could bring you neither
But you will always
Be
My
Mum
I’m truly sorry
I could not be your daughter
